Apple Crumble (dairy,gluten,refined-sugar free)

There is nothing better in the fall than the smell of warm baked apples coming out of your kitchen.  I am a sucker for any type of baked apples and absolutely love apple crumble with a little vanilla ice cream. This recipe is enjoyed by everyone in our family and I hope it will be enjoyed by yours as well.

Ingredients:

  • 8 small medium apples, peeled, cored and chopped.
  • dash of lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup coconut sugar
  • 1 tbs arrowroot starch
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • pinch of sea salt
Topping:
  • 1/3 cup coconut sugar
  • 1/2 cup gluten free flour blend
  • 1/2 cup gluten free oats
  • 1/4 cup almond meal
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon
  • pinch of sea salt
  • 1/3 cup butter or non-dairy butter such as Earth Balance

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F and lightly grease a 9x9 baking dish.
  2. Add apples to a large bowl and sprinkle with lemon juice. Toss to coat with coconut sugar, arrowroot, cinnamon and salt.
  3. Transfer to baking dish and set aside.
  4. In another bowl add coconut sugar, flour, almond meal, oats, cinnamon and sea salt.  Add the melted butter and mix until it resembles wet sand.
  5. Sprinkle topping over the apples and bake until apples are soft and topping is golden brown (between 45 min to an hour).
  6. Let rest for 10-15 minutes before serving.
  7. Top with vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce!
